Waiting for perfect conditions is a part of any windsurfer’s life. 21-yr old Irish Pro Mikey Clancy’s radar locked onto the possibility of it happening at his favourite reef break at Magheroarty in the far north west of Ireland.

All systems were on high alert as the massive storm tracked across the Atlantic. On arrival from Ireland's Capital city the wind switched south westerly and the incoming tide jacked-up perfect 25ft monster waves. Armed with his 4.7 North Hero sail and a Fanatic 75 ltr quad board Mikey spent the day riding some of the biggest waves seen in Ireland. In the misty conditions many seasoned sailors took the safer and more sensible option of watching from the pier alongside Michael Clancy Snr who took the shots in this gallery. "This was one of the last pictures taken as a cleanup set had washed over the pier and fogged up my Dad’s lense, but it actually looks pretty cool and shows the dark side of the Irish weather."
