"I've worn my mouth guard off an on for the last 6 or 7 yrs. It helps you focus better. I think a lot of people unknowingly clamp their jaw during intense activities. With a guard you get a cushy sensation that lets you relax more and concentrate. I don't use it all the time but I do in Gran Canaria, or say strong-wind Fuerte. I wouldn't use it much in Turkey as it's so hot there and breathing's very important, plus the water's quite flat there so it 's easier going. But in colder places like Sylt or Korea I do unless it's light and a lot of pumping's involved. I don't train with it, although I tried it wavesailing and found it more hinderance than help - especially when getting worked!"

WHAT'S WITH THE MOUTHGUARDS?

Is it still Halloween? Nope. We noticed Micah Buzianis and Marco Begalli, top right, wore gumshields racing. Micah tells us why.
