HARNESS LINE LENGTH
Long: Better control in stronger winds, as the rig is further away and stays more vertical, also giving you more time to react when big gusts hit.
Short: Better lift for lighter winds, but gives you less control over the rig and forces you to position your body more upright, pulling you off balance too easily. Definite No No. I recommend using harness lines slightly longer than the forearm, in order to keep the rig more vertical, enhancing the performance with lighter winds.
FOOTSTRAP POSITIONING and STANCE
Strap positioning on a freestyle board is pretty standard, and the inserts ensure that your feet are pretty much centred over the board – inboard and away from the rails. I personally set my front footstraps all the way forward and the back one halfway back, in order to have a wider stance and be more balanced during rotations. The placement of the back strap is vital and the key is to have the leading profile of the fin at about two inches forward of the back insert of the back footstrap, in order to have the best control over the sliding and properly use fin pressure to make the board pop. The general rule of thumb is setting everything in the middle and then adjusting it little by little, to find the trim the makes you feel most comfortable. The more comfortable you are the more you can focus your attention on the next chapter - THE POP! See you next time. MP I-00
