MONTHLY TARGET:
BOOST YOUR SPEED OVER 30 KNOTS ON ALMOST ANY GEAR

Of course it comes down to skills, but to break specific barriers as you progress, it may just come down to equipment. Compared to the records, 30 knots doesn't sound much - but it still takes a fair amount of skill and application.

Important is that your sail, board and fin are working together as a team. The board needs to be the right size for the conditions - and smaller isn't always quicker - especially when its choppy it could pay off to take a wider board that carries you over the chop better and smoother, kind of by creating a stable platform, whilst with a narrower board, you bounce into the chop more, which can only slow you down.

Sailing overpowered is usually faster when you can still manage the power and translate into maximum speed.

The perfect set up for breaking 30 knots in my opinion is a modern, medium-size slalom board and average size modern race sail, in medium wind of 5+ Bft.

Take the Fanatic Falcon 111 for example, I managed 38 knots on that board with a 7.0 in 6 Bft of wind. So you don't need a specialized speed board to break the 30 knot barrier.
